Protected during our first travel to the tribe…

This time, i would like to give thanks, thank you all that you are praying for us! The work we do is a heavy battle, which is impossible to do without prayer! We felt carried and protected during our travel to the tribe;

On our way going towards the tribe (20 kilometers from the tribe) a part of our car broke, with the result that all controle of the car was lost. The car flew of the road, the car rolled over more times and stopped on its side in a farmers land, some meters next to the road. All shaking and shocked, but completely unharmed we climbed out of the car.

Passengers stopped, looked amazed from the car to us: “the baby was also in the car?” “This is the hand of God whom protected you!” “All glory to God and His angels!” “Impossible! It must be a miracle of God that you guys are alive!” This were some of the reactions in and around the small village where the accident happened. Everywhere Gods greatness was recognized and praised for it! The next day we continued our travel towards the Indian tribe, where we were friendly welcomed. Also here they were amazed and happy that we didn’t even had a little scratch on our bodies: “Your God for sure helped you guys.”

In the tribe, Lucas and Antonio went with the men to the field to take out the cassava. All together we made farinha from it. By letting the cassava soak in the water for a day, it becomes soft and is it possible to sieve the cassava. Afterwards it will be roasted and we have our end result a coarse-grained cassava flour. This you can keep for years, without that it will become bad.

Mostly it is eating in the bouillon from meat or fish, in which the farinha will become soft. Also it is eaten directly out of the hand. The roasted farinha is a source of income for this tribe, so that they can for example, buy rice.  Unfortunately, they are quite cheated; the Indians do not understand our numbers and the value of the numbers and notes, since they have a very different counting system. This means that people give a lot of money to the Indians with a lesser value and they don’t realize that they are being fooled.

The place where the tribe lives looks like a part of paradise on earth: hundreds of butterflies whirl around, fruit trees full of fruity and juicy fruits. A running stream with a waterfall hiding between the various green trees, which is good for people and horses to look for coolness. Unfortunately, hundreds of stab flies fly around you in a swarm, this makes wearing long clothing and socks in the heat unavoidable. With swollen and itchy neck, hands and feet, we are very grateful and happy that the tribe is looking forward to our next visit to help them!

Currently we are back on the YWAM base in Porto Velho. Our car was brought here and is at the car garage; Unfortunately we have received a message that the car has been declared total loss. Because of this we are selling the car for the parts, among other things the engine is completely good. This means automatically looking for a new suitable car, this is a major and stressful challenge for us.

Pray with us for:
– the testimony of how God has preserved for us may work in the hearts of all who hears it;
 – the processing of this stressful intensive journey, both the accident and the encounter and God’s plan with the tribe;
 – God’s guidance in the process of selling our car and purchasing the right new car;

and give thanks to God for:
 – His protection, His incomprehensible greatness and goodness;
– that the tribe has received us lovingly and is looking forward for our return;
